At Benussi & Co, we focus on trying to bring the legal procedure to as swift a conclusion as possible.
One way to do this is by arranging “round table” meetings – relatively informal get-togethers between the two parties and their respective legal teams to discuss matters.
These meetings usually take place in the offices of one of the solicitors: there are separate rooms for each party as well as a “joint” room where the participants can come together to resolve hitherto contentious issues and potential sticking points.
Round table meetings are beneficial in a number of ways: they can enable the two sides to reach an agreement instead of the court deciding matters for them and they can help to diffuse animosity or correct any misunderstanding between the parties. Often, estranged partners leave these meetings together – testimony to how successful they can be in restoring civil relations.
Round table meetings enable clients to take more responsibility for the outcome of their divorce settlement. The more groundwork the two parties and their legal teams have put in, the less likely it is that costly and lengthy court action will be needed.
Of course, some clients don’t like the idea of round table meetings – especially if there is a history of hostility between the parties – but we encourage them where appropriate.
The sooner a divorce is concluded, the sooner both parties can move on with their lives.
